Hello All,
We are currently expanding our junior development and have some 40+ juniors at the come and try nights. We also have a lot of juniors that are now playing in C and B grade and as such this is a timely reminder to ALL UWH players that Underwater Hockey is a non-contact sport! Yes.....believe it or not.......its non-contact!!!
While there may be plenty of unintended contact in the rough and tumble of a game, it is our responsibility as players to minimise this particularly given the diversity of skill, age and sizes of those we compete with and against. Bad behaviour and unsportsmanlike conduct WILL result in you or your team being penalised.
If a referee determines that you are making contact to gain an advantage, then it is entirely appropriate for you to spend at least a minute in the sin bin, preferably 2 minutes.
But regardless of the decisions being made it's not ok to retaliate or abuse the referee. Not only is it poor sportsmanship but it is easy for referees to see and you will definitely spend time in the bin or ultimately end up suspended from playing for a few weeks. Referees are not interested in protestations of " they did it first" or "it was his fault".
Contact takes many forms in Underwater Hockey deliberately using weight or strength to gain an advantage is not in the spirit of the game and will not be tolerated by referees or by the committee.
Referees also have obligations to correctly fill out the game sheets. If the committee can't read it or it contains incorrect information, then this will affect the ladder. Referees should only comment on the game at hand and not what happened the week before. If there are ANY issues during the game, then it gets recorded on the team sheet. If referees have ANY questions or need to seek further advice, please seek out a committee member or if you want a confidential response, please email the committee @ tasunderwaterhockey at gmail.com<mailto:tasunderwaterhockey at gmail.com>.
Please remember this is a game played for fun and fitness and we ALL need to think about our actions as a player as ultimately it affects others.
