*Rule of the Week.*
Wow! Who would have thought it would be possible to fill out, or not, team
sheets in so many different, and at times, creative ways. And yet, it’s
easy to see how so many of us misinterpret and misunderstand what is
required on the team sheets. Makes me wonder about sheets I have filled
out.
‘Why does it matter,’ I hear you cry. There are several things that the
team sheets are used for. Firstly, they are used to collate scores.
Secondly, they record the player’s presence in each game and the refs in
each game. If the team sheets are not filled out correctly, the collated
scores may be incorrect. It may mean that players’ presence is incorrectly
recorded meaning they are ineligible for finals. Or maybe a team is
recorded as not providing enough refs and are penalised which leaves them
out of the finals. There are many, many more possibilities and arising
issues which then need to be corrected by the committee, teams and the
captains.
But most importantly, someone has to collate and enter the data on the
sheets. These people are volunteers, who we rely on to keep things ticking
along in Hockey land and I believe it’s just bad manners to expect our
volunteers to spend even more time interpreting team sheets completed in
various and sundry ways.
Please take the time to watch the very short video Craig has made which
shows how to fill out the team sheets. Even if you know how to fill them
out please watch this youtube clip. After all, how hard can it be. And
therein lies the problem.
Finally, At the end of the game, it is up to the captains of the teams
playing to ensure that the sheet has been filled out correctly, especially
players names. It’s to your benefit.
