Hi Everyone,
If you haven't already heard, at the pre-competition Captain's meeting a few weeks ago we discussed ways that we might reduce the amount of 'referee hassling' that we've been seeing from some people in the last pennant or two.
To that end, we decided to trial a 'bonus point' system for this pennant - where each team will get a bonus point for any game where all four of the referees feel that there were no incidents of any kind which could be deemed to be intimidation or abuse (or just not nice comments towards the refs or any other player).
For the past two weeks, everyone has generally been pretty good with regard to their behaviour, so thanks! :)
We have had a couple of 'incidents' though, and because I hadn't sent a follow up email to you all after the meeting, I have not deducted the bonus point from the teams concerned.
Please take THIS email as notice though, that from this week on, any individual that 'talks' to a referee or other player in what that individual (or any other ref or committee member in the water or around the pool) feels is a 'less than polite' manner, then the game referees are instructed to not give you your bonus point for the game.
If you are refereeing, PLEASE make sure you discuss the issue of whether the bonus point should be awarded to each team as a group, before you exit the pool after the game.
All Captains have been told to talk to the members of their teams, to let them know what the consequences of any unwelcome discussion with the referees might be, but if this hasn't happened yet - here they are. Please do your best.
On another note - for teams providing referees, there are some other responsibilities that need to be met after each game. Before you exit the water, all of you should go directly to the deck referee and discuss the bonus point considerations, plus:
1. Nominate best and fairest players, and
2. Confirm the scores.
Team Captains are also required to ensure they confirm the scores, and that they give 'newspaper votes' for their team.
Please don't make the deck referee run around after you. They often have to play immediately after your game, and also need to get ready.
Thanks,
Simon
