Hi all current players, The Schools’ competition will start on Monday the 16th of March from 7.00-8.30pm. As usual we are seeking volunteers to assist. The first two nights are ‘come and try’ where anywhere up to 60 new players with varying degrees of swimming, snorkelling and playing skills will arrive expecting a good experience; it is important that we are welcoming, organised and professional. The program for the first night is: 6.45 – briefing and tasking of all volunteers7.00 – registration and briefing of all new players7.15 – kitting out7.30 – concurrent court set-up by volunteers and swim/snorkel tests for all players for grading*7.45 – familiarisation / training for groups and sub-groups8.00 to 8.30 – scratch games *For the first two weeks of Schools’ we will divide players into groups based on their UWH experience, general swimming and snorkelling abilities. There will be four major groups - A – mainly students who have played before- B – good swimmers and snorkelers but limited or no playing experience- C – limited swimming and snorkelling ability- D – UTAS students / adults who have dropped in A senior player will be in charge of each of the groups and be given a court to work in. We need volunteers, particularly high school students, to help run the first two nights. It is important to understand that, as a volunteer, you will not be playing games but doing a much more important thing – teaching and mentoring new players. Tasks will include:- Setting up courts- Issuing and fitting gear- Collecting data (registration forms, grading information)- In water teaching including basic (snorkelling, diving and moving the puck) to more advanced skills (flicking and curling)- Running games including reffing, one-on-one mentoring and team management (eg controlling subs) Please contact Glenn Keppel at keppel at jpgpartners.com or on 0400 523595 ASAP. You will be assigned a role - please let him know what task you would prefer e.g in water or on deck role. He can then let you know in advance what you will be doing.
