[Uwh-announce] Rule of the Week- Deck Refs and Let the Captains speak

Hi All,

Given the flurry of activityregarding backchat, it seems we may have swung
said pendulum too far, and now I'm getting reports that Captains are being
sin binned for asking about calls.

So to clarify, Captains (and vice captains if the captain is out of water)
are allowed to question a call to get clarification. Nicely. And concisely.

However, if a ref thinks the captain is trying on a time waste, or isn't
nice, then the refs can shut them down. It's a matter of courtesy. We all
know how that works. If not, may I suggest changing to cage fighting
instead.

Now this is where our poolside scorers come in to play. Believe it or not,
they are the official "deck ref". which means they are expected to control
the game. So how does this work?

Well, it's simple. A deck ref can call out subbing fouls, off play fouls
and pretty much any other bad stuff the other three refs miss, or if they
disagree on a call. They should also mirror the signal and direction of
advantage that the in water Refs ALWAYS make after a call. That way the in
water ref can get on with setting up, and everybody can look up to the deck
ref to see what the foul was, and who copped it! Game gets going faster,
and everybody is happy-unless you're the one who fouled.......

So if you happen to have the score sheet in your hand, it's probably better
if you watch the game, and signal fouls. It makes it so much easier for
players to get cracking again.

So, see you all poolside and...........

As always:

*Regardless of what you think of the call, it’s what it is. Live with it,
and move on.*

See you all poolside!
