Ok here we go again,
So if you are wondering why I'm starting the email with the way I normally
finish rule of the week again, , its because we need to re address a
growing problem of backchat to referees. Again. Seems the message didn't
quite get through.
Week before last we suspended a second player for a week for an incident
where the backchat/abuse crossed the line. The rules are very clear as are
the TUHA by laws. Only the captain or vice captain should be talking to the
refs. And nobody should be abusing, intimidating or threatening a referee,
either directly or within earshot. The last thing we want to do is suspend
players, and the best way to avoid this, is to not break the rules in the
first place.
Given that we have had two tribunals in quick sucession, I can guarantee
the next penalty for this will be far harsher. Be warned.
We are lucky, as most other states in Australia don't have any referees at
all. The last thing we want is to get to a point where we don't have them
either. So we need to respect them, and their calls, even if the call is
askew, or we risk people refusing to referee- this is already happening now.
Now all refs will admit that they have a bad night. Its unavoidable. TUHA
are progressing some work to achieve consistency in how games are reffed.
So in the meantime, cut the red hats some slack.
So, see you all poolside and...........
As always:
*Regardless of what you think of the call, it’s what it is. Live with it,
and move on.*
See you all poolside!
