Hi all,
This week's rules are a bit obscure, and therefore fall into the category of weird calls, as they came up this week in a discussion following two games. I've bundled together a couple here as they involve the court boundaries.
Holding or grabbing the wall- you are not allowed to actively hold the wall whilst in possession the puck or involved in the play (i.e. tackling etc.). It creates an advantage. If its accidental, you are up for a one-off caution. If it is deliberate or a second and subsequent offence, you can get a rest for a minute next to the deck ref whilst your team curse your temporary inability to displace water and be useful.
However, you are allowed to push off the wall with your hand against the vertical surface.
Corner rule (see Page 33, Section 16.2.2.1 WAA rules)- so how long can the puck be held for inside the 1m radius from the corner of the court?
Answer is-For as long as two players from the same team can hold their breath, where the second 'should' try to attempt to move it out of the corner. If a third player makes no effort to move it from the corner, then advantage puck is awarded against the offending team and cautioned for the first offence. Second and subsequent offences will earn the player a kick out. If any player from the opposition team touches the puck in between these efforts, then the player counter resets to the first player again.
As always:
Regardless of what you think of the call, it's what it is. Live with it, and move on.
See you all poolside!
