Afternoon all.
The training issues are not going away just jet. There is a meeting between the pool manager (Lisa Padden) and her Director tomorrow and I will pass on feedback relevant to us.

The pool managements current position is that anyone training outside our current agreement (doing underwater work on their own) will be asked to leave the centre. This is on health and safety grounds as the pool complex has determined the practice to be unsafe (as have the OH&S and legal team at council).

If anyone wishes to read the current laws on OHS&E I can give you a source but needless to say they have tightened up a lot recently. If the pool staff allow any activity that has ben deemed unsafe then they are open to litigation or at the very least disciplinary action.

Please stick to the current agreement when training (copied below).

Sincerely
Mark.

Dear All

Following some issues with underwater hockey players doing unsupervised underwater breath hold training I met with a hockey representative and agreed on the following rules for hockey training, including underwater breath holds.

Hockey players training on the surface are not a concern, there are no restrictions and our normal lapping rules apply, eg fast lane, no chain swimming, no swimming under people etc.

For Hockey players wishing to train underwater including breath holds the following guidelines apply

* There are only to train in pairs or more, ie no individuals. The training partners do not need to follow each other but they do need to actively monitor their training partner/s.

* When the pool availability shows 5 lanes or more available for general lapping THAC will make available, upon request, a fast lane in which hockey players can train underwater. Hockey players will need to contact the Shift Supervisor who will set up a lane for them. We will get a new lane marker made up with FAST LANE HOCKEY TRAING PERMITTED. It is not an exclusive hockey lane, just a fast lane where hockey players can do their underwater training.

* When there are less than 5 lanes available it is up to the discretion of the Shift Supervisor whether or not to make available a lane based on the number of people in the pool. If a lane is made available it needs to have the appropriate lane marker.

* It is important that hockey players wishing to do underwater training get approval from the Shift Supervisor before-hand. Unless there is something unusual happening in the pool this request should be accommodated if there are 5 or more general lapping lanes available.

Thanks

Steven Spinks
