See message below from Australian Mens Coach, Arnie Picolli, forwarded by Craig Mackenzie (Underwater Hockey Australia's Championships Officer), regarding confirmation of  the  Open Elite World champs in Coimbra, Portugal in August 2011 (and confirmation that the CMAS games in Columbia have been cancelled, again !!).

Please circulate the following information to any player on your state hockey lists that may be interested in competing in the Open Elite World champs in 2011.



Just tonight we have had confirmation that the worlds championships (not the cmas games which have been cancelled again) will be in:



Dates: 15-21 August

Location:  Coimbra, Portugal



More details are to come soon and while we understand how frustrating the uncertainty of this has been for all the players and officials but it is out of our control.

1) To register your interest, Blake will then organise for you to be added to the online team forum where team information is posted.  The reason w want to initiate a squad now is to start discussing our training and team strategy (particuarly as we are likley to be playing in 3m)- with only 5 months between nationals and worlds we cant wait until after selections.



2) attend selections:

Friday 11th March:  pre-nationals selection trial

Wed  16th March: post-nationals and final selection trial

Thursday 17th + Friday 18th March: Post nationals training camp



NB times for the key dates above will be circulated closer to the nationals



Once the team has been selected we will agree upon a range of issues:

Date / venues for training camp (likely to be two before the team travels)

Captain will be chosen by selectors – team will choose vice captain

Wether we take any further team assistants (masseuse etc)



My role is to guide the team – given the vast experience within the team I will be looking to delegate some of the key tasks to experienced team members with the aim of inviting ownership of the direction and making the best use of our available resources.



For many of the team members (as well as my role as coach), this may be the last opportunity to represent Australia at an elite level and I hope that we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to bring back the ultimate prize following several worlds where success was less than we planned for.



One of the main areas of improvement required for the team is fitness – the selectors will be directed to look for players that are fit at the selection trials – not players that have proven themselves previously and will probably get fit after the nationals. So be aware either arrive at the selections fit or don’t bother.



3) Nominations forms are required to be submitted before the first selection. They are available at:
