Training
Training and the women's league tonight is from 7:30-8:30 ONLY. Make
sure the trolley is out and everything ready to go as soon as the lane
ropes are removed to maximise our training time. Please arrive early to
ensure we can start ASAP.
State team officials
It is time to start preparing for the nationals in January 2012 in
Perth.
As a first step we need to appoint the coaches for the men's, women's,
masters and junior teams, as well as a state team manager.
If you are interested in any of these roles, please notify our president
(Mark Lewis) before the next committee meeting on 13/9/2011 -

Refereeing
There has been much comment about the refereeing of late. The committee
has considered the situation and will be taking the following actions in
addressing the issue:
1. The guild referee group will be reinstated and a guild referee
assigned to as many games as possible, with preference to B and C grade
games should numbers require
2. Referee training and rules sessions will be held over the
coming months
These steps will take time so please be patient. Other actions will be
taken over time to improve the situation.
Conversely, there is a responsibility on all players to understand the
rules and by-laws of our game. These are on our website
www.underwaterhockey.com.au <http://www.underwaterhockey.com.au/> .
In addition there is an expectation that people play with sportsmanship
and respect for others and the referees, no matter how junior they are.
Remember these people are volunteering to help YOU.
As such the following should be noted and adhered to by all players and
referees
1. All players are expected to play fairly and with respect for
the health and wellbeing of all players in the game
2. A referee's decision is final. You might think a call is
incorrect, but this is not negotiable.
3. Backchat to referees will not be tolerated in any form
4. The ONLY players who can talk to referees are the captains (or
vice-captain if the captain is out of the water), and conversations must
be polite and non-threatening
5. Questions to the referee can only be about what a foul was.
Questioning or arguing a decision will not to be tolerated and will
attract a penalty.
6. Any other player talking to a referee can be penalised 1 minute
in the bin without warning - and this should be enforced.
7. Any swearing, intimidation or abuse of the referee or other
players will not be tolerated. This should be an automatic bin for 1-5
minutes depending on severity.
8. Any unnecessary aggressive or rough play including punching,
holding, kicking, pushing etc. will not be tolerated and will attract an
automatic penalty and time in the bin or exclusion for the remainder of
the game.
9. A player in the bin is not allowed to speak. Any swearing or
bad behaviour from a player in the bin will attract an additional
penalty and the deck side ref will enforce this. If they are not
confident to do so the deck referee should stop the game and seek
assistance from the senior referee/guild referee in the water.
10. Deliberate fouls and head shots will result in an instant 2
minute penalty in the bin.
Captains, make sure all your team are aware of these points
It is everyone's responsibility to make our game safe and enjoyable for
all.
