Subject: Referees Guild - PLEASE READ
Hi there TUHA members,
So as you are all well aware this pennant has seen a big change in the refereeing setup for our Wednesday night competition. Now this has proven to have many positives, but also has come with many associated issues and problems. Some people have embraced it and others.... well lets say they have voiced their issues.
Many of you would remember in years past alongside team refereeing duties there has been the ever present referees guild. Unfortunately the past few pennants has seen the slow demise, and now this pennant, the death of this system (not through lack of trying by chief referees). As I am sure everyone would agree the referees guild once played an integral role in ensuring a fun, fair and conflict minimal Wednesday night competition across all grades. For this reason it is a system we are very keen to resurrect, this is where you, the members come in.
I am looking for expressions of interest from people willing to be involved, at any level, in some form of referees guild. It will involve:
- Putting in as much or as little as you are comfortable with
o Refereeing as many or as few games as you like
o Possibly not refereeing at all but helping with referee training, rostering, communication, feedback or planning
- That warm fuzzy feeling you get from putting something back into a sport that gives so much to you!
- Formal recognition and accreditation as a professional referee
o This can lead to paid trips to local, national and international destinations. (As Simon will vouch for, or myself who just returned from a paid/sponsored trip to Colombia to referee and play)
- Reimbursement for your time investment into the bettering of our underwater hockey
- Learn to better understand the rules, which will not only help you as a referee, but also as a player, captain, coach or trainer.
So what I need at this point of time is an email letting me know you are interested, your level of commitment, and your relevant experience or qualification etc etc. Really only needs to be very short.
Secondly, on Wednesday the 29th September (there is no hockey on due to water polo championships) we will organise to get everyone interested together for a chat on how the system can be run best. (a location, time etc will be designated closer to the date when numbers of interested people is finalised, somewhere central, probably where beer/wine is available). Hopefully following this we will be able to implement something to start before the end of this pennant.
Hope to hear from LOTS of you soon!
