Hi All,
Nationals 2011
We are still waiting for final confirmation of the dates and venue for the 2011 Nationals, and hopefully that confirmation will come from Jane Gilligan, Chairperson of Underwater Hockey Australia, sometime this week.
However, we can say that it is highly likely the dates will be centred on the long-weekend in March i.e. 8 Hour Day/Labor Day long-weekend 12th, 13th, 14th March and the venue will be the Tuggeranong pool in Canberra, with host State being ACT (with assistance from NSW).
Masters 'Master Plan'
Australian Masters Team Coach, Elwood (David Sutcliffe) has put together his 'Master Plan' for the next 12 months of Australian Masters attack on the World. If you are of Masters age and have interest in being considered for the Australian Masters Squad, you should read Elwood's plan which has been posted on the UHA website ( www.underwaterhockeyaustralia.org.au ).
The ASIAN UNDERWATER HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held in Manila, Philippines, during 30 October - 1 November, 2010. Australia will be represented by a Mens Masters Team (as per Elwood's Master Plan) and possibly a Womens or Womens Masters Team. South Africa are talking of sending a Masters team too, and possibly New Zealand. If you are interested in being considered for the Australian squads for these championships, please contact Elwood (coachelwood at hotmail.com) or Kirsteen Reid (krchook at optusnet.com.au).
Some of you may not be aware that we (Tassie) are sending an U15 Schools Team to compete in the 26th New Zealand Schools Underwater Hockey Championships, being held in Christchurch, during next week. The team will depart on 31 August and return to Hobart on 6 September. Last year, at the same championships, our U15 Schools Team did extremely well in what is a fairly tough competition. Sandra Milner (Manager) and Ian Shanahan (Coach) are to be congratulated on getting a team together for this year's comp. Ian is unable to accompany the Team to NZ, and Mark Jones will be Coach for these championships (Thanks Mark !!). On behalf of all in TUHA, I wish the Team, Mark, Sandra and all those accompanying the team the best of luck in Christchurch.
Craig
